New Delhi : The Ministry of AYUSH on Tuesday released the official protocol for using Ayurveda and Yoga for the Covid-19 prevention and treatment of patients with mild symptoms or no symptoms. The treatment includes practices such as hot turmeric milk, kadha, yoga, consuming Ashwagandha, Guduchi and Pippali.

The Ministry of AYUSH has been advocating the use of Ayurveda since the beginning of the pandemic claiming that alternative medicine can help build immunity against the novel coronavirus.

Last month, the Health ministry issued guidelines for managing post-recovery symptoms of Covid-19. The AYUSH Ministry’s protocol released on Tuesday is called the National Clinical Management Protocol for Covid-19 patients.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promoted the same advice by the ministry in his address to the nation in April and the advisory released then had cited 33 research studies backing it up, as reported by The Print.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan tweeted that the “upgradation of protocols” has been done in sync with the Indian Council of Medical Research and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

As per the protocol, general and dietary measures such as drinking turmeric milk, sipping kadha and steam inhalation are also to be followed. The protocol also recommends 6 to 8 hours of daily sleep and moderate physical exercise along with

following social distancing, respiratory and hand hygiene, and wearing masks.

The protocol also lists the use of ashwagandha, guduchi, pippali, Ayush 64 tablets in different doses, and yoga to prevent Covid, treat mild symptoms and for post-Covid self-care.

The Modi govt. Had previously come under fire for recommending use of alternative medicine for Covid-19 due to an absence of conclusive results.
