Out of the 25 triple IT’s in the country, 5 are solely led by the central government and 15 run under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
“We have brought the proposal before this House to bring five new operational institutes which are located and have started operations in Surat (Gujarat), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhagalpur (Bihar), Agartala (Tripura) and Raichur (Karnataka) to bring under this act,” Nishank said.
The IIIT’s will now be covered under the IIIT (PPP) Act, 2017, similar to the other 15 IIITs established under the scheme in PPP mode instead of the Societies Registration Act of 1860.
“IIT Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will entitle the institutions to use the nomenclature of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) or PhD degree as issue by a University of National Importance,” Ramesh Pokhriyal notified.
The bill will make possible for the institutes to be a magnet for enough students required to develop a strong research base in the country in the field of Information Technology.
