Lucknow: 28 years after the Babri Mosque demolition, A special CBI court has set the date for the final hearing on September 30. Senior BJP Politician LK Advani, along with other prominent stalwarts such as Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, and Kalyan Singh are among the accused. The court has ordered all 32 accused to be present at the hearing.
Lawyer KK Mishra, who is representing 25 out of the 32 accused, including former deputy prime minister LK Ad Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti, confirmed the date set by Judge SK Yadav for delivering the verdict.
Mr. Advani, Mr. Joshi, and Ms. Bharati are accused of a conspiracy that incited the demolition of the 15th-century structure.
Mr. Advani, 92, is reported to have recorded his statement in the case through video conferencing before the special CBI court on July 24 and Mr. Joshi, 86, recorded his statement a day before the former’s statement. Both have denied all charges against them.
In an interview with NDTV in July, Uma Bharti had stated that “it does not matter” what the verdict is. “If I am sent to the gallows, I will be blessed. The place where I was born will be happy,” she had told NDTV.
The 15th-century Babri mosque in Ayodhya was demolished in 1992 by Karsevaks, an event that influenced the political and social landscape of India with riots breaking out following the event which resulted in the deaths of more than 3,000 people.
