Chandigarh/Amritsar : Around 10 farmer bodies have called for ‘Punjab Bandh’ on September 25 protesting the “anti-farmer” agricultural ordinances being enacted by the Centre. Since Thursday, various farmer organisations have been protesting the three agricultural ordinances passed by the government which they believe will kill the Mandi system and may force farmers to sell their products below the Minimum Selling Price (MSP).
A decision to declare a statewide bandh was taken in a meeting of the farmer organizations held in Ludhiana yesterday.
According to The Tribune, The meeting was attended by Kulwant Sandhu, general secretary of Jamhuri Kisan Sabha; Nirbhai Singh Dhurdike, president of Kirti Kisan Union; Buta Singh Burj Gill, president of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Dakonda) and Jagmohan Patiala, general secretary; Manjit Dhaner, president of Krantikari Kisan Union; Dr. Darshanpal, general secretary and Gurmeet Mahima, president of Punjab Kisan Sabha; Ruldu Singh Mansa, Surat Singh of All India Kisan Sabha; harjit Ravi, general secretary of Kisan Sangharsh Committee, besides leaders of Azad Kisan Sangharsh Committee; Jai Kisan Andolan; Punjab Kisan Sabha Sambar and All India Kisan Sabha Punnawal.
In order to ensure the success of the bandh and intensify the farmer’s movement, a joint meeting of all the organizations has been convened on 19 September in Moga.
All businesses, railways and road transport will remain shut on this day as decided by the leaders of these organizations
Kisan Sangharsh Committee’s Punjab president Satnam Singh Pannu held responsible both the ruling Congress in Punjab and the BJP’s ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for playing with the sentiments of the state’s farmers, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Earlier today, Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Left parties are reported protested in front of the Gandhi statue at Parliament over their demand for withdrawal of “anti-farmer ordinances”.
