On Wednesday, former Eastern Army Commander – Lieutenant Anil Chauhan was appointed as the Chief of Defense Staff by the Government.
The appointment of a new Chief Defense Staff was discussed after the death of former CDS Bipin Rawat.
In a statement, the Defense Ministry said, “The Government has decided to appoint Lt. Gen. Anil Chauhan (retired) as the next Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) who shall also function as Secretary to Government of India, Department of Military Affairs with effect from the date of his assumption of charge and until further orders.”
After retirement, Lt.Gen Chauhan served as the Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
