Justifying the practice of dowry, the book has listed down a few ‘advantages’ of dowry. The first point of the advantages of dowry – as mentioned in the book – states that dowry is helpful in establishing new households with gifts, mattresses, TV, fan and others. The last point of the ‘merit’ says that with the help of dowry, even ‘ugly looking girls’ can get married to well or ugly looking boys.
As the book is a part of the nursing courses, it has claimed that as per the syllabus of the Indian Nursing Council, dowry has helped the girls to be educated.
The book calls it an indirect advantage that the parents are encouraging their girls to complete their education and get employed so that they don’t end up giving more dowry.
