On Monday, the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi has claimed saying that about 90% of the Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear the qualifying exams in India.
As per the rulebook, the ones who pursue MBBS abroad are mandated to clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) so that they are able to work as doctors in India.
India is making efforts to evacuate Indian students from Ukraine. He also said that India has deployed additional staff at its embassy in Ukraine to ensure the safe return of Indian students.
On Monday, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has urged everyone to work together and not politicize the ongoing evacuation process. The minister said “…Scoring points at this hour of crisis will make us look bad. I have been watching videos of our young citizens stranded in Ukraine making fervent pleas for evacuation. It is heart-wrenching to see their plight. But when war is raging in that country and there is so much uncertainty on the ground, and when operational links are broken, it is only fair that we support our officers and embassies to focus on the job at hand.”
