Andhra Pradesh cabinet approves creation of 13 new districts

The state government has approved the creation of 13 new districts for ease of administration. Currently, the state of Andhra Pradesh has 13 districts and will now have 26. A nod has been given by the State government for the formation of new districts. 

On Tuesday, a virtual meeting took place between the cabinet ministers wherein the names of a few districts were finalized. The new districts are being formed under the AP Districts Formation Act, Section 3(5).

Srikakulam town will be the headquarters of the Srikakulam District and Vizianagaram will be the headquarters of the Vizianagaram district. Araku valley region in Vishakhapatnam district has been named Alluri Sitharam Raju district with Paderu as its headquarters. Visakhapatnam will have Vishakhapatnam city as its headquarters.
