Asia’s richest man and Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani was delivering a virtual address at the Indian Mobile Congress, 2020 on December 8. The baron said that Jio, a subsidiary of the Reliance’s tech arm will roll out 5G services in India by June 2021. The roll out will mar ka key development in the Indian Telecom Industry’s implementation of the next-gen technology.
Speaking at the Indian Mobile Congress 2020, he said that the Indian economy won’t just bounce back, but accelerate at an ‘unprecedented’ pace.
“India is today among the best digitally connected nations in the world. In order to maintain this lead, policy steps are needed to accelerate early roll out of 5G, and to make it affordable and available everywhere. I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G Revolution in India in the second half of 2021,”
Mukesh Ambani said on Tuesday speaking at the opening session of the India Mobile Congress, which was held virtually online.
Contradicting Ambani’s statement, Bharati Airtel’s chairperson Sunil Bharti Mittal, while addressing the same program of the fourth Edition of India Mobile Congress said that it may take two-to-three years for the domestic telecom market to mature enough for 5G services.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, the initial testing and subsequent auctions of the 5G spectrum that were expected early in 2020 got delayed. Hence, there is still unclarity about the 5G spectrum auction in India.
