On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the city has identified its ‘priority batch’, which is of around 51 lakh people, who will be the first ones to be vaccinated under the Central Government. Kejriwal was seen addressing a Virtual Press Conference when he announced the news. Kejriwal said that currently, the city if Delhi has built and arranged storage for about 74 lakh doses of the Covid-19 Vaccine. The storage capacity is said to be increased to 1.15 Crore in a week’s time, the CM added.

Each person in priority categories is being registered to receive the vaccine. The 51 lakh individuals that will be registered after identification, will receive an SMS on their mobile numbers notifying him/her about the date, time and place of vaccination. “There are a total of 51 lakh priority category persons in Delhi — three lakh health workers, six lakh frontline workers, and 42 lakh of those aged above 50 and those below 50 but having co-morbidities,” Arvind Kejriwal said at the digital press briefing.
“We would need 1.02 crore doses of vaccine for the first phase of vaccination since each person will get two doses,” the CM mentioned. Talking about setting up sufficient centers and camps for administering the vaccine doses, he also said, “In case anyone develops side-effects, we also have teams of specialists ready to treat such people.”
The current situation of Covid-19 in Delhi has seen quite an improvement in the past few days. On Wednesday, the National Capital reported 871 new coronavirus cases and the Health Department’s data shows that the total count of the cases, as of Wednesday, in the city of Delhi, was 6,19,618.
After being all set for the ‘Priority Group’ testing, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, while concluding the talk said, “We are eagerly waiting for vaccine approvals now.”
