As schools reopen after months of closure due to the pandemic, Covid-19 cases have been reported in some areas. 22 students from St Joseph Boarding School in Mumbai tested positive for the coronavirus. In addition to the students, seven other people tested positive for coronavirus. The developments followed RT-PCR tests performed on August 24 at the St. Josephs School and Orphanage in Dongri after a couple of students complained of fever and other Covid-like symptoms the day before.

After the two students tested positive for Covid-19, the BMC teams tested the remaining 95 students, 22 of whom tested positive, including four children under the age of 12.

Students over the age of 12 were sent to the Richardson & Cruddas Company’s Covid care center in Mazagaon, while those under the age of 12 were admitted to Nair Hospital’s pediatric Covid center.

In a related development, the BMC declared a containment zone after discovering at least 17 Covid cases, including 5 with the Delta Plus variant, in a single housing society in Kandivali.

According to the BMC, all of the patients in the two areas (Dongri and Kandivali) are stable and there is no cause for concern.
