Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Friday announced a ₹10,000 crore financial assistance to the flood-hit people in the state, including the farmers.

The CM guaranteed that the aid will be provided by Diwali while talking to reporters. He spoke this after holding a meeting with the key leaders of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on the flood situation.

Uddhav hit out at the Central Government for their pending ₹38,000 crore to Maharashtra.

The CM said,
“The aid announced on Friday is the biggest given for the natural calamity in the state. We have increased the relief amount to Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000 per ha for the loss on irrigated and non-irrigated land of crops and horticultural crops, respectively and the relief will reach the farmers before Diwali (November 14).”

Increase in each hectare:

Rs 6,800 to Rs 10,000

Rs 10,000 to Rs 25000

The district administrations have completed spot valuation of the losses suffered due to the unseasonal rainfall and the State Government will ensure providing the aids the flood-hit farmers at the earliest.

“I don’t like the word package, but we will give ₹10,000 crore assistance…it will be used for different purposes,” Thackeray stated.

Division of the 10,000 Crore Package:

Rs 5,500 crore – relief to Farmers for their Crop Loss

Rs 2,365 crore – for Damages to Roads and Bridges

Rs 1,000 crore – for Destruction of Rural Roads and Disruption in Water Supply

Rs 300 crore – Urban Areas

Rs 239 crore – Energy Schemes

Rs 102 crore – Resource Schemes

And the rest will be distributed as per needed.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was also a part of the meeting held at the chief minister’s official residence ”Varsha” in Mumbai via video-conferencing.

Due to the unseasonal rainfall and flooding in the past few days, harvest-ready crops on hectares of land were found devastated in many districts of central and western Maharashtra.
