Making a sexist comment in the ongoing state Assembly session in Belagavi, Senior Congress leader KR Ramesh Kumar and Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has sparked a controversy.
Kumar, a former speaker of the House, said, “There’s a saying…when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. That’s exactly the position into which you are.”
This comment was made by the leader as the MLAs demanded time from the Speaker to discuss the issue of farmers in the Assembly.
Later, the minister apologized and tweeted, “It was not my intention to trivialize or joke about ‘rape’! My sincerest apologies if I have offended you. But the situation in the house has deteriorated so much that I used an analogy! Will choose my words wisely in the future.”
