Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), and questioned their Hindutva. The Shiv Sena chief said, “What kind of Hindutvawadi are you? You went into hiding during the Babri Masjid demolition. It was the court that decided to build the Ram Mandir.”
Thackeray went on to call them “weak Hindutvawadis” and said it is a “fake neo-Hinduism” where these parties are competing with each other to prove “who is more saffron”.
“We follow gada-dhaari Hindutva and not ghanta-dhari Hindutva,” Thackeray said, adding, “I will hold a rally soon and will deal with everyone there.”
It should be noted that the MNS is trying to corner the Maharashtra government over the issue of loudspeakers in mosques while the BJP tried to rile up the Shiv Sena after two of its leaders attempted to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’ – the Thackeray residence.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray has given an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government over loudspeakers at mosques and warned that if this demand is not met by May 3, MNS workers will play the Hanuman Chalisa near mosques to subdue the sound of Azaan.
