The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal launched ‘SWITCH DELHI’ Campaign that asks the Delhites to switch to Electronic Vehicles. Under the horizon of this campaign, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has appealed big companies and delivery chains, market associations, resident welfare associations, malls, and cinema halls to promote the use of electric vehicles and to set up the charging stations at their premises.
The move is to boost the activities for the increased adoption of electric vehicles in the region and also help combat air pollution. In addition to raising awareness, the Delhi government is also contributing to the cause of EV adoption by switching to electric vehicles themselves. Kejriwal noted that within the next six months, all vehicles hired for the Delhi government will only be electrically-powered. This means after six months the Delhi government will only hire EVs for official use and purposes.
While appealing to make the campaign a mass movement, the Chief Minister encouraged the youths of the city to buy an electric vehicle as their first vehicle.

“The Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy has been called the most progressive EV policy in India and among the best globally. The policy was well-received because it sets an ambitious vision for Delhi to drastically reduce air pollution from vehicles and become one of the top cities of the world in terms of the adoption of EVs. Our vision is that by 2024, 25% of all vehicles in Delhi should be electric vehicles,” Kejriwal said.
According to several pollution source apportionment studies, vehicles are among the main causes of pollution in Delhi.
Close to 6,000 new electric vehicles have been registered in Delhi over the past six months, most of which are two- and three-wheelers.
