The government, under this scheme, provides 5kg foodgrains free of cost to 80 crores NFSA beneficiaries.
On Wednesday, the Union cabinet has decided to extend the “PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana” till March 2022. This was said by Union Minister Anurag Thakur during a press briefing.
In the previous year, the government had announced PM-GKAY to all the beneficiaries who are covered by National Food Security Act (NFSA) amidst the economic disruptions that happened due to Covid-19.
This scheme was actually slated to end on November 30. The department of Food and Public Distribution has said that the food grains under Phase V would entail an estimated food subsidy of Rs. 53344.52 crore.
