In Mumbai city, the union of kaali-peeli taxis has called for a strike on August 1. The Mumbai Taximen’s Union has called for a strike to demonstrate protest against the government that is not deciding on the fare hike. A demand of Rs.10 has been made by the taxi drivers, taking the fare from a minimum of Rs.25 to Rs.35.

Taxi Union Leader AL Quadros said “It is much needed as after the last fare revision in 2021, the rate of CNG has gone up from Rs.48 to Rs.80,” quoted The Times Of India. He has also objected to the imposition of hefty fines by the traffic police.

He also said that it was recommended by the Khatua committee to the government that after the revision of the last fare, if the CNG was increased by over 25%, then the taxi fare should be revised immediately.

Quadros demanded that “Our drivers pay more fines than the day’s earnings. Most of it is due to parking in a no-parking zone. The government should allot us more stands for parking instead of sending e-challans to our drivers,” quoted The Times Of India.
