On Friday evening, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced the district of Hoshangabad will Noe be called as Narmadapuram. This announcement took place in an event organised to observe Narmada Jayanti in the district, Singh asked the people whether they liked the name of Hoshangabad and are they willing to cha he the name.
In the later announcement, he said that the district of Hoshangabad will now be renamed as Narmadapuram.
Singh said that,”I have been trying to change the name since 2008 but the then Congress-led central government didn’t approve the proposal of changing the name. Now, the Central government will surely approve the proposal.”
The Union Ministry has approved the proposal for changing the name of Hoshangabad as Narmadapuram under the rules for changing names of places. Earlier, Chauhan had made the announcement of changing the name of the district.
Office of the CM tweeted, “On the auspicious occasion of Narmada Jayanti, CM Shivraj Chouhan has announced that from now, Hoshangabad will be known as ‘Narmadapuram’.

MP Congress Committee spokesperson JP Dhanopia said, “The BJP-led state government has nothing to do with the development of the state. They don’t want to put any effort to ensure the safety of girls because they are busy in renaming places and communalising everything. Now, people have started understanding the real face of BJP leaders.”
Some of the most prominent city name changes happened in Uttar Pradesh where Allahabad was changed to Prayagraj and Faizabad changed to Ayodhya a few years back.
