The 24 colleges coming under Mumbai University will have to fulfil certain criteria laid out by the government to get the official approval.

Approval has been given to 5 colleges for the City of Mumbai alone.

These 5 colleges include,

  1. Law college in Kandivali
  2.  Three more law colleges in Thane district.

Most of the proposed colleges are already running schools or junior colleges in various districts of the state. The proposal was sent to the state government which has given its sanctions in two different resolutions issued on April 15 and May 17.

An official from the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education has shared that this move is to facilitate education accessibility, as it is outlined by National Education Policy. Accordingly, keeping this criteria in mind, the department has sanctioned the same for colleges that comply with the norms while others have been asked to fulfil the deficiencies.

With the addition of 24 new colleges in Mumbai University, an official said that the total number of affiliated colleges under the university will now cross the 850-mark, making it crucial for the state to bifurcate larger universities.
