The biggest temple and mosque in Badagaon of Jhansi district have taken down loudspeakers from their respective premises, depicting communal harmony. The loudspeakers were being used for decades and have now been taken down after the temple priest Shanti Mohan Das and the Imam of the mosque Hafiz Mohammand Taj Alam spoke to one another and came to a decision to take down the loudspeakers.
The Ram Janki Temple and Sunni Jama Masjid – both located in Gandhi Chowk locality are at a distance of just a few kilometers. This decision has come at a time when there is an ongoing controversy about the use of loudspeakers at religious places.
Shanti Mohan Das, the temple priest, has said that the decision was to give out the message of love and brotherhood to the people. “The arti is performed every morning and evening, the bhajans are being recited regularly but without loudspeakers,” quoted Hindustan Times.
On the other hand, Hafiz Tej Alam said “We have been living in harmony and this (loudspeakers) cannot be allowed to come in the way. I pray for this harmony to prevail in the country and people continue to live in peace. We have small speakers inside the mosque and ensure the sound doesn’t travel outside and remains within the mosque,” quoted Hindustan Times.
