On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the team owners of IPL that the tournament might be played in Mumbai in three venues – the Wankhade, Brabourne, and DY Patil Stadiums starting from the last week of March and running till the end of May.
One franchise owner told the Economic Times that Pune would be a backup. Moreover, after a meeting with the board and the team members, he also said, “The BCCI informed us that they intend to host IPL 2022 in Mumbai without any spectators in the stadiums. Plan B was South Africa and the UAE, but all the franchise owners were also in favor of hosting it in India.”
“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run till May end,” said the BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah after the meeting. He also said that the majority of team owners also wanted the tournament to be held in India.
