Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar is one of the best-known playback singers in the country who has been awarded with Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan and many more. Fondly known as Didi and the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar rules a million hearts and here’s a glimpse of some of her beautiful chartbuster songs till date.
1. Nachu Ya Gade
After her first song she sang in front of public at the age of five in raag Puriya Dhanashree at her father’s (Master Dinanath Mangeshkar) training court at home, showing an elder teenage boy how to sing a classical note exactly like her father. Her father was so proud of Lata and trained her in classical personally after that incident. The first filmy song recorded was for this Marathi movie “Kiti Hasaal”. Song’s title was “Nachu Ya Gade”. The song was unfortunately dropped from the film’s release.
2. Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana
This song is indeed one of the phenomenal ones ever sung by Lata Di. Its an unforgettable piece sung by Kumar Sanu and Lata Mangeshkar which was an instant hit when DDLJ released. Who knew that this song will be an evergreen masterpiece of cinematic art !
3. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Sometimes there is joy, sometimes there is sorrow, also known as simply K3G, is a 2001 Indian Hindi-language melodrama film written and directed by Karan Johar. This particular song is one of the chartbusters even today composed by Jatin Lalit, Lata Mangeshkar, and many more. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham as a movie and the first song released won several awards at popular award ceremonies the following year, including five Filmfare Awards
4. Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo
Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo is a Hindi patriotic song written by Kavi Pradeep, composed by C. Ramchandra, and sung by great singer, Lata Mangeshkar. The song commemorates Indian soldiers who died during the Sino-Indian War in 1962. The song was first performed live by Mangeshkar on 26 January 1963 at the National Stadium in New Delhi in the presence of President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, on account of Republic Day (26 January) 1963, which was just two months after the end of the war. This song marks the love and pride for history, sacrifices , need and significance of music, art and freedom.
5. Humko Humise Chura Lo
The indelible impact this movie and especially its impeccable soundtrack had during the year 2000 is certainly the one to dominate the high school days, especially the ‘farewell’ even today.This star-studded musical romantic drama took the youth by storm, getting into the ‘cult classic’ category. Being a musical, the track “Humko Humise Chura Lo” proved to be the crème of the movie and yet again cementer Lata Mangeshkar’s versatility.
