ANI reported Chacko saying, “I am formally joining the NCP today. NCP is part of the Left Democratic Front in Kerala. Once again, I am back in the LDF as a part of NCP.” He announced the party change during a conference in Delhi. “Today, the need is the unity of the opposition. A united opposition should emerge as an alternative to the BJP. I don’t see that initiative in the party which I was a member of earlier,” Chacko also said.

PC Chacko was welcomed in the party by the senior officials of the Nationalist Congress Party. President Sharad Pawar, Senior Leaders like Praful Patel and Supriya Sule were also a part of the welcome ceremony. Saying that he has a long association with the NCP, Chacko said that his joining the NCP was not an “experiment”. “I joined NCP as part of the LDF (Left Democratic Front In Kerala). The country today needs the Left and other democratic parties to come together,” he said at the event.

Chacko also added, “I have promised Pawar sahab that LDF will come to power in Kerala. I will be touring in Kerala as a true soldier.”

PC Chacko reasoned his party change saying, “What we need is unity in the opposition, which I didn’t see in my previous party… I am happy to be in a party that is moving in a direction, a party which is functional.”

It was on March 10 that PC Chacko resigned from his previous party Congress and sent his resignation to the party President Sonia Gandhi. It was “very difficult for a sincere Congress worker to survive. Merit is not a concern at all,” Chacko said while speaking at a press conference.
