Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the National Youth Parliament 2021 on Tuesday, when he mentioned that the ‘Dynasty Politics’ is the ‘New Tyranny’ in democracy. The Prime Minister asked the youth to take a stand against this and join the Indian politics in large numbers in order to uproot it and “help reshape the country’s destiny”.

The National Youth Parliament Day was held on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda hence, Modi referred to him several times, saying that Vivekananda had focused on the growth of both individuals and institutions, and the New Education Policy was a step forward in that regard.

The prime minister said, “There are some changes still pending. Political dynasty is the biggest enemy of democracy. It’s a challenge that needs to be uprooted. The days of people winning elections on the basis of their surnames are over.”

Key Points by PM Modi from the Event:

  • Dynasty politics is such a challenge before the country and it has to be uprooted.
  • Now, the days of those who won elections with the help of surname are over. But this disease of dynasty is not completely obliterated.
  • The political dynasty only promotes the philosophy of ‘me and my family’, instead of ‘nation first’ philosophy. It is a major reason behind the political and social corruption in India.
  • Recently, honesty and performance have become mandatory conditions for politics in India and not like ancient times when ‘politics’ meant quarrel, trouble, plunder and corruption.

  • There are still people, whose ideas, whose ethos, whose goal, everything is to save their family’s politics and their family in politics. This political dynasty promotes inefficiency in democracy along with dictatorship.
  • The corruption of those who had a (political family) legacy has become a burden on them today. Despite their innumerable efforts they are not been able to get a firm footing again.

The event was also attended by ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
