- University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently released a notice on its official website regarding the resumption of classes for all the affiliated colleges and universities. As per the information, under the revised calendar, the odd semester classes may begin from Nov 18.

UGC in the Academic Calendar released has asked the universities to complete the admission process by October 31. Accordingly, the classes for the odd semester batches, – 1st, 3rd, and 5th – are to begin from November 1, 2020. In case of delay, due to various circumstances, the universities have been permitted to begin the odd semesters (intermediate semesters) by November 18, 2020.
In the academic calendar released, pursuant to the September 21 meeting, UGC has asked the universities to commence the semesters from November 1, 2020, in case the admissions were completed by October 31. If however, as per UGC, there is a delay in the declaration of results of qualifying examinations, the institutions can delay and push the odd semester classes to begin from November 18, 2020. The Commission has also given the recommendation to conduct classes 6 days a week for the academic session 2020-21 so that the loss of learning hours is compensated.
The institutions can offer a blended teaching process – either online, offline, or using both. Also in case of cancellation of admission in a particular college UGC has asked the varsities to refund the admission fee in full to the parents or the student concerned.
UGC released a notice saying, “ The UGC again requested the Expert Committee to revisit the guidelines dated 29-04.2020 and 06-07-2020 and suggest an Academic Calendar for the first year of UG and PG programs for the session 2020-2021. The Commission at its emergent meeting held on 21.09.2020 based on the Report of the Expert Committee approved the UGC guidelines on Academic Calendar for the first year of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of Universities for the session 2020-21 in view of COVID19 Pandemic.”
As per the guidelines, merit-based admissions to the first year of the academic session 2020-21 must be completed by the end of October 2020. The last date for universities/ colleges to fill up the remaining vacant seats would be November 30, 2020
