BMC seizes 1.3k buildings after in Mumbai after the city reports 2.7k COVID positive cases.

On Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed a total 1305 buildings in Mumbai as the number of COVID positive cases surged. This was done in the wake of the rising cases of the coronavirus in Mumbai, after 2749 coronavirus cases were reported.

In a statement, BMC said that, “A total of 1305 buildings sealed in Mumbai after 2749 COVID-19 cases were reported. A total of 71,838 households are residing in these sealed buildings.”

Since December, Mumbai has recorded the highest single day spike in positive cases in addition to the 823 Covid cases.

In the last two days, the city’s daily count of positive cases has crossed the 700 mark after it had recorded less than 500 cases at the start of the week.

On Thursday, the average growth rate of COVID-19 cases in the city has increased to 0.18 per cent from 0.17 per cent and the average doubling rate has dropped to 393 days from 417 days.

Total cases in the state stand at 20,87,632, including 19,89,963 recoveries, 44,765 active cases 51,713 deaths.

On Friday, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that since the Covid cases are rising in Mumbai from the past few days, the state government has deployed marshals to enforce mask-wearing and social distancing at public and religious places.
