Last week, the Punjab and Haryana HC said that an adult man under the legally marriageable age of 21 can live with his consenting partner like a couple outside wedlock. The partner (woman) should be 18 years or above.
These remarks of the High Court were in line with the order of the Supreme Court in May 2018 wherein it talked about adult couple living together without marriage.
The High Court observed while hearing a plea for the protection of a couple in a live-in relationship from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.
