India reports 7,230 cases, sharpest rise since the January wave

India saw the sharpest rise of Covid-19 cases after the January wave, with 7,000 cases being reported for the first time in a period of 99 days along with a 7-day average doubling in less than a period of 10 days. 

On Wednesday, the country reported 7,230 cases from which Maharashtra and Kerala accounts for nearly 70% of the tally. On Thursday, the national capital registered 622 cases, the highest since May 14. 

Moreover, on Wednesday, the daily test positivity rate has also risen to 2.3%, the highest since February 15, 2022. On Thursday, the State reported 2,813 new Covid-19 cases, the highest since 15 February 2022. Mumbai city has accounted for 1,702 cases.
