Apart from the usual e-challan, the riders found without helmets will lose their driving license for a period of three months.
A new SOP was announced by the Mumbai Traffic Police through YouTube video wherein the officials added that it will be mandatory for the offenders to watch an awareness video of two hours regarding the traffic rules.
In a Facebook live session, Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey announced that it is dangerous to ride without a helmet and instructions were given to file FIRs for rash driving against any offender. After the discussion, a decision was taken not to file FIRs but instead, to have an SOP.
As the traffic police have the power to suspend a license, they are also coordinating with the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).
