Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath is recently in news as he is on a path of reforming the state and the norms. Recently, he announced the initiation of a special police personnel batallion to ensure order and decorum in the courts and other government organisations.

Yogi Aditynath is also famous for renaming many monuments and places of interest after he named Allahabad to Prayagraj. Giving continuous statements of redefinition, Yogi ji is yet again in the tabloids for announcing the renaming of the Agra Museum.

As per the statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the decision to rename the under-construction Mughal Museum in Agra after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Rs 141 crore museum, being built by the state tourism department, was the brainchild of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav who announced its construction in 2016.

How can Mughals be our heroes?” the press quoted Yogi Adityanath’s statement. Yogi ji added, “The very name of Shivaji will invoke a feeling of nationalism and self-esteem.”

The CM issued instructions regarding the change of naming the museum to officer at a meeting that he held from his official residence via video link to review Agra division’s development works and the Covid-19 situation. Samajwadi Party’s Agra city president Wazid Nisar blamed the Yogi regime of focusing only on changing names instead of developmental works.

He also reacted regarding the change by stating,” This Mughal Museum was the dream project of then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. The BJP government is not releasing the required funds for the completion of the project.”

Responding to the completion of the project, Amit Srivastava, deputy director of Uttar Pradesh tourism office in Agra said,“Much of the work has been completed but the finishing touch is yet to be given. There was a paucity of funds because of the lockdown and the work stopped.”

He further added,” The museum was to house historical artifacts from Mughal and Braj culture. It is located about 2 kilometers from the eastern gate of Taj Mahal.”

Soon after the Agra divisional review meeting, Yogi hi tweeting in Hindi said, “The under-construction museum in Agra will be named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In your new Uttar Pradesh, there is no place for any symbols of subservient mentality.”

The leader of opposition in the state legislative assembly and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis welcomed Yogi’s decision on renaming the Mughal Museum after Shivaji. Acknowledging Yogi’s tweet, Fadnavis tweeted,

“Jai Jijau, Jai Shivrai ! Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaji Ki Jai!”
