WHAT DOES THE NEW WHATSAPP POLICY MEAN?
Share This:

Recently, WhatsApp came out with a fresh policy update and that has created a sense of doubt in the minds of audience. Due to this, the users of whatsapp have migrated to other apps like signal and telegram.

1. RELATED TO BUSINESS ACCOUNTS ONLY.

The new Whatsapp policy is mainly related to optional business feature accounts only and it has nothing to do with private accounts or groups. WhatsApp is giving businessess the option to use secure hosting services from Facebook to manage WhatsApp chats with their customers, answer questions and send helpful information like purchase receipts. Facebook can see those message and will use that information for its own marketing purposes, if you are communicating with a business.

2. IT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR PRIVACY.

With rumours going around WhatsApp breaching your privacy, it answered some common questions it’s audience wanted to ask. It said that it did will not affect your private messages with friends or family at any cost.

  • WhatsApp cannot see your shared location, nor can Facebook.
  • WhatsApp groups remain private. No data will be transferred to Facebook. Privacy will be maintained.
  • You can set your messages to disappear.
  • Your contacts will not be shared to Facebook.
  • Your WhatsApp call logs and messages will not be recorded.
  • Neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see your messages or hear your calls.

WHAT DOES WHATSAPP SAY ABOUT ITS FRESH POLICY??

1. We don’t keep logs of who everyone is messaging or calling: While traditionally mobile carriers and operators store this information, we believe that keeping these records for two billion users would be both a privacy and security risk and we don’t do it.

2. We can’t see your shared location and neither can Facebook: When you share your location with someone on WhatsApp, your location is protected by end-to-end encryption, which means no one can see your location except the people you share it with.

3. We don’t share your contacts with Facebook: When you give us permission, we access only the phone numbers from your address book to make messaging fast and reliable, and we don’t share your contacts lists with the other apps Facebook offers.

4. Groups remain private: We use group membership to deliver messages and to protect our service from spam and abuse. We don’t share this data with Facebook for ads purposes. Again, these personal chats are end-to-end encrypted so we can’t see their content.

5. You can download your data: You can download and see what information we have on your account right from within the app.

IF YOU ARE ON FACEBOOK: Nothing changes when it comes to personal chats. However, if you are engaged in conversations with a business, you might start seeing related ads on Facebook and other company products such as Instagram.

… OR IF YOU ARE NOT: Nothing changes for you as a WhatsApp user, as you cannot be shown ads on Facebook.

Do my Facebook friends get to know what my WhatsApp contacts are sending me?

No. Your conversations are encrypted, and neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see what is being discussed. This applies to all your groups as well.
