Six more Local Trains will run on Western Railway tracks from September 28. The decision to increase the number of locals was taken on Friday by the Railways Ministry and the Western Railways (WR) in collaboration. This decision has been taken for travelers to maintain Social Distancing and avoid Overcrowding as the norms to keep them safe from the Covid-19 virus.

Special Suburban services of railways for people affiliated to emergency and essential services have begun since mid-June.

Lately, videos of overloaded suburban trains had gone on Social Media where there was no sign of Social Distancing seen. Only to shun such circumstances, the WR has decided to add six more local services to its corridor. The Central Railway (CR), too, had added 68 local services recently.

Around 85 lakh commuters daily used to travel through CR and WR before the lockdown period. At present, they cart nearly 10 lakh commuters daily.

“The number of daily special suburban services will be increased from 350 to 500 on Western Railway from September 21 to maintain social distancing and avoid crowding. The essential staff as notified by the state government to travel in local trains is requested to follow social distancing and wear a mask during travel,” the Western Railway said in a statement on Friday.

The increased six services have been added between Virar- Churchgate sector. – 3 services – UP from Virar on Slow Line

– 3 services – DOWN towards Virar on Slow Line

– 2 Ladies Special services – UP & DOWN morning & evening peak hours – Virar and Churchgate.

Following Social Distancing norms are putting on a Mask is MUST while boarding the trains and only specific categories will be permitted to travel, as per the Government.
