Educational institutes had joined hands with edtech companies so as to offer online/conventional programmes for which the University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education have given a warning to them of derecognition.
On Sunday, a red-letter notice was issued in which both the bodies asked the higher education institutes to annul agreements with the edtech companies. Officials have said that the higher education secretary had flagged the advertisements which offered educational degrees through such edtech firms.
The notice said “Some edtech companies are giving advertisements in newspapers/social media/TV, etc. that they are offering degree and diploma programmers in ODL/online modes in association with some universities/institutions. Such a franchise agreement is not permissible and action will be taken against defaulting edtech companies as well as HEIs under applicable laws/rules.”
