Talking on the phone while driving will soon be legal in India, said the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. Gadkari also said in the Lok Sabha that there will be some rules that must be followed.
As per Nitin Gadkaris’ statement, talking on the phone will be permitted only when the phone is connected to a hands-free device. Moreover, the phone must also be kept in the pocket rather than in the car. If the traffic police stop you and cut challan, then it can be challenged in a court of law.
In September, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that mobile phones can be used while driving a vehicle only for the route navigation, without hindering the concentration of the driver at the time of driving.
