On Wednesday, bail was granted by the Supreme Court to Indrani Mukerjea who was the prime accused in the murder of Sheena Bora – her daughter. Indrani Mukerjea will be released once a release plea is made in front of the trial court along with the amount set as well as all formalities completed. Sana Raees Khan – her lawyer has said that she will be trying to apply for a release on Friday.
It was observed by the SC bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Bhushan Gavai that six and a half years was a long span of time, with a trial that has been stuck with nearly 200 witnesses that are yet to be examined.
A special leave petition was filed by Mukerjea against the Bombay HC of November 16 that refused her bail. On August 25, 2015, she was arrested by the Mumbai Police and since then she has been behind the bars.
