Uttar Pradesh’s Shia Waqf Board’s Former Chairman Waseem Rizvi is seen to be getting in a controversy. Waseem Rizvi has made a plea to the Supreme Court of India to remove almost 26 verses that are included in the Religious text of Islam – The Quran.
On Tuesday, 16th March, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain for making a plea to the Supreme Court for removal of some verses of Quran, the PTI reported. Syed Hussain said that his party, the BJP, is absolutely against those individuals who insult “Any Religious Texts.”
Syed Shahnawaz Hussain is the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party and during his backlash as Rizvi’s act said that he should not vitiate the atmosphere of the nation by being a part of such an act. “I strongly object and condemn Wasim Rizvi’s petition seeking removal of 26 verses from Quran. It is my party’s stand that saying absurd things about any religious texts, including Quran, is a highly condemnable act,” Hussain told PTI. “The BJP does not approve of Rizvi’s views as it hurts the sentiments of the people,” the senior leader added.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board too disapproved Rizvi’s plea and the Times of India quoted Maulana Wali Rahmani saying, “No Muslim believes this and Rizvi is infamous for creating rift between the Muslim communities.”
Rizvi has moved the Supreme Court seeking the removal of 26 verses from Quran, claiming they promote violence.
A notice to Rizvi has been sent by the National Commission for Minorities ((NCM) to Rizvi for his statements against the Quran, asking Rizvi to write an unconditional apology and also to withdraw his comments within 21 days.
Waseem Rizvi’s family has distanced itself from the incident. Rizvi’s brother’s video was seen circulating online in which he is seen mentioning that the family members have nothing to do with his actions.
