It has been requested by the domestic liquor makers to the authorities of Maharashtra to think about the determination to cut back excise duty on the imported merchandise.
In a letter to the Maharashtra authorities, the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) has mentioned the reduction on excise duty imported merchandise has created an “unequal and unfair playing field” in the opposition to Indian-made overseas liquor.
The letter mentioned, “Excise duty reduction of such scale on imported products is disastrous for the Indian industry. It so distorts the level-playing field against the Indian industry, that consequences may be far-reaching leading to disinvestment, job losses and farmer discomfort.”
