Key Points :

  • The Indo-China issue will be highlighted in the Rajya Sabha on 17th September
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will take the lead and answer opposition questions about the matter
  • The issue is about Chinese attempts to trespass the Line of Actual Control and recapture territory despite a Peace Agreement.

The defence minister, on Tuesday, spoke in the Lok Sabha saying that any severe situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh will surely impact the two-sided relations between India and China.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Lok Sabha about the current issue between India and China and he is expected to elaborate the matter on Thursday. The questions by the opposition in parliament on the India-China tension in Ladakh are expected to be answered too.

“The gathering of the troops by China goes against our 1993 and 1996 agreements. Respecting and strictly observing the Line of Actual Control is the basis for peace and harmony in the border areas and clearly recognized in both agreements. While our armed forces abide conscientiously by it, this has not been reciprocated by the Chinese side. In the recent incidents, this year, the violent conduct of Chinese forces has been in complete violation of all mutually agreed norms,” Singh said in the Lok Sabha.

The government has finally agreed to give explanations in a session that has seen hue and cry over reduction opportunities for discussions.

India “is highly prioritized about issues of sovereignty” and the country is prepared for “all uncertainties” to ensure that it is maintained, Singh said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

On June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the line of duty – a first in more than 4 decades. That is when the encounter with China increased. Even then, there have been continuous attempts by the Chinese troops to recapture the heights occupied by the Indian soldiers.
