On Monday, the police said that a 24-year-old woman, who is a rape survivor and a bride, failed to pass the virginity test that was conducted forcefully in Bhilwara district and was tortured and beaten by her in-laws. According to reports, a penalty of Rs.10 lakh has been imposed by Khap Panchayat on the woman’s family.
As per the Hindustan Times report, an amount of Rs.10 lakh is given to the groom’s family if the girl fails the virginity test.
Deputy Superintendent of police, Surrendra Kumar said that the girl was allegedly raped by her neighbor and a case was lodged by her at Subhash Nagar police station.
