JAIPUR: A white tiger named ‘Chinoo’ died at the Nahargarh Biological Park, which gained notoriety for mismanagement and negligence of its animals in the past. The biological park has become a ‘graveyard’ for these wild cats. Five tigers and five lions have died at the park since 2019. The six-year-old white tiger, which died on Sunday, was brought from Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha last year.
The big cat was suffering from acute renal failure. The tiger had become frail and weak and had stopped eating for the past four days. “Post-mortem revealed high creatinine levels. Only a few officials were present while we cremated the carcass as per the guidelines,” an official said.
According to experts, big cats in captivity are prone to kidney ailments. Retired IFS official Sunayan Sharma said, “In a zoo, the big cats are fed by the staff. If hygiene is not maintained, the possibilities of infection or renal diseases are high, unlike the wild.”
