March 1 is the date finalized by the government to being with the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive. The administration pf people above the age of 60 and those above 45 with comorbidities with the shot against the coronavirus disease, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said on Wednesday. In the first phase that started on January 17 in the country, the frontline workers and healthcare specials were shot with the first dose.
The previous rounds of the vaccination drive were free of cost for the frontline workers like the police personnel and the municipal sanitation workers and healthcare workers but, the next phase will not be entirely free. The ones getting vaccinated at around 10,000 dedicated government facilities will get it free of cost. The others those who are getting injected at private centres, whose numbers are expected to be around 20,000, will have to pay for the immunization.
The Health Ministry will decide the charges for the vaccination in a couple of days said Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, while briefing the media about the decisions taken at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

Over 1.84 crore healthcare workers and frontline workers are registered on the portal for the jab till Wednesday evening, says the Co-WIN data portal and as many 1.05 crore have received the shot till date, some both doses of the vaccine.
A total of 1,19,07,392 vaccine doses have been administered until now and the beneficiaries include 64,71,047 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose, 13,21,635 HCWs who have taken the second dose, and 41,14,710 frontline workers (FLWs) who have taken the first dose, as per the data provided by the health ministry.
India’s covid-19 tally has stands at over 11.03 million, as it recorded 13,742 new cases of the coronavirus disease, health ministry data shows, while deaths rose by a two-week high of 104 to 156,567. The active cases tally is 146,907 and 10,726,702 people have been discharged.
