In a decision that has taken many in the world of badminton by shock, global champion P V Sindhu has left the ongoing national camp for Olympic enthusiasts and flew to London. Her Instagram account said on Monday that she had travelled to the United Kingdom to work on her recovery and nourishment.

As per sources, she has been in the UK for at least 10 days now.Despite the fact that it is quite unusual for a top Olympic medal hopeful to leave a national camp halfway, this is also the first time that Sindhu has traversed abroad without being accompanied by either of her parents. Sources claim that the badminton star is being monitored by a group of experts, which includes Rebecca Randell of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Sindhu is expected to be in the UK for the next two months.
Sindhu has left the country in perturbation apparently after tensions in her family. Before her departure from Hyderabad, Sindhu pre-informed the coaches at the Pullela Gopichand Academy that she will be unavailable for the next 2 months. Both Sindhu and her father were not available for a comment. However, a source claimed that Sindhu was upset with a few things. “She is unlikely to return anytime soon. At this stage of her life, she wants to be on her own and not be controlled.Maybe being at home during the lockdown took its toll and she wanted some freedom. We hope she enjoys the break and comes back”.

Sindhu’s father PV Ramana has claimed that Sindhu went to London because she was unhappy with the quality of practice at the National camp, also alleging that Chief National coach Pullela Gopichand was least interested in Sindhu’s training. However,Sindhu herself has put out a social media post rebutting any claims that she has no issues with the training facilities at the national camp. Sindhu in her post said – “I do not have any issues with with my coach Mr. Gopichand or the training facilities at the academy.”

Chief coach Gopichand meanwhile confirmed that Sindhu had informed him about her decision to fly to London but refused to talk about Ramana’s remarks.”I don’t want to respond to what her father has to say, if Sindhu says something, I will respond”,Gopichand said.”She has gone for that Gatorade training academy, that is the information we have. They have a training institute there.I don’t know the exact details or duration of the program,” he added.

Ramana said Sindhu had informed the Badminton Association of India (BAI) related to her trip to London and had also kept Gopichand informed about her every move.Sindhu’s father stated that,”She had sent a letter to BAI last week about her trip, with a copy to Gopi and since she will be there for at least eight weeks, she will be practicing with (the) England team. So, she requested BAI to put in a word to Badminton England.”
