Recently, the Odisha Police displayed a recruitment notification. It was for the appointment of sub-inspectors and constable posts at the Odisha Police Department.
This is not news but, the upcoming part is. The notification mentioned that “Trans people are eligible to apply for these vacancies.”
This is for the first time that Transgender community members are allowed to be a part of the Odisha Police for the posts of constables and sub-inspectors. It will be the main police cadre that will look after the recruitment to the Sub Inspector post whereas the constable (communications) is a technical cadre.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board sought online applications from men, women and transgender people for the appointment of 477 sub-inspectors and 244 constables (communication).
“I invite qualified women and men to join the Odisha police as constables (communication) and SIs to serve the people of the state. Also, for the first time, people belonging to the transgender category can apply for both the posts,” state’s director general of police Abhay, who uses one name, told reporters in Cuttack, according to news agency PTI.
The notification, though mentioned the allowance and eligibility of Trans in the department, it also said that differently-abled people will not be eligible to apply. “Transgender candidates are eligible to apply, PWD (Persons with Disabilities) are not eligible to apply,” the notification stated.
How will the Constables be Recruited?
– It will be filled up by Direct Recruitment.
– The applier must be Indian
– The applier must have passed +2 examination or equivalent examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha or by any other recognized Board or Council
– The applier should have passed Diploma in Computer Application or Equivalent Course from a recognized institution duly affiliated by the Government;
– The applier must be able to speak, read and write Odia and must have passed Odia as one of the subjects in the High School Certificate Examination or an examination in Odia Language.
There’ll be a Written Test of 100 marks in the time span of 2 hours and will be an MCQ pattern with negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
A Physical test will also be conducted where Running will be the major qualifying reason.
