Since the last month, the non-teaching staff is on strike and have been demanding a five-day working week along with arrears in salary and the benefit of the seventh pay commission, promised career progression scheme amongst the other things.

It was on November 22 when Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackeray Women’s University (SNDT), Mumbai University, and other degree colleges in the city went on a token strike for the non-implementation of the seventh-pay commission.

The Secretary and Senate Member of Mumbai University, Mr. Rupesh Malusare said, “the strike which began at 10:20 in the morning went on till 6 pm.”

He added, “All of us, the teaching staff, were present at the office for the protest today. We took a mass casual leave to speak up for our demands concerning the seventh pay commission. It came into action on October 1, 2020, when it should have come into existence on January 1, 2016. Because of this, every government staff worker in Maharashtra should’ve received his commission from January 1, 2016, itself.”
