Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on 17th September, in the Rajya Sabha detailed about the Indo-China border issue that began in early May this year. Indian and Chinese troops have come face-to-face at multiple points along the de-factor border, known as the LAC.

The Minister gave a detailed report starting right from the peace agreements in 1988, 1993, and 1996 till the point of common understanding till 2003 and despite all the agreements on paper and in person, China has not acted according to the Indian army and neither according to the agreements.

In some of these areas, particularly the Finger Area and Depsang in Ladakh, Indian forces have been cut off from reaching areas they could previously patrol. The defense minister took some questions from members in the Upper House. Responding to a relative question from the former defense minister A.K. Anthony, Singh also said that, “No power in the world can stop Indian troops from patrolling over the border.”

“It is easy to start wars but there is no control over how they end,” the minister said, underscoring the importance of restraint and gave the solution of talking it out with the neighboring country and settling the matter with peace.

The minister appreciated the army for its efforts during the war-like situation and also for putting their lives on stake for the country. “Two words, Jai Hind!” – said Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien.

“I hope the House will understand the sensitivity of the matter,” Singh said while concluding the issue and only the tip of the iceberg was detailed as the matter tends to be critical.

Minister Rajnath Singh is due to separately hold a closed-door meeting with opposition leaders on the sensitive issue.

Rajnath Singh assured the citizens of the country that they won’t let the nation down.
