The Thane Municipal Corporation initiated conducting the antigen test at Thane station from Friday the 4th of September 2020. Owing to this initiative, many migrant workers commuting through trains, essential service straphangers, and local residents of the area could avail this service.
Now as of Tuesday 8th September 2020 the official statistics released by the TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) indicate that the Naupada-Kopri ward conducts the highest number of daily tests in the city. As per Pranali Ghonge, assistant municipal commissioner, the ward conducted 700 tests on Sunday, 6th September 2020.
The data also revealed that the positivity rate of cases is very low. Previously around 3 out of 450 tests were infected by the virus and at present less than 10 people test positive out of 700 tests which has become the daily average as per Phone.
The stats affirm that the TMC conducted a total of 5,493 tests on the 5th of September 2020 which sets the record of the highest daily tests conducted in the city so far. Out of the wards falling under the civic body, Naupara- Koori ward tested 947 which accounts for 17.2% of the total tests conducted. This was followed by the Uthalsar ward conducting 576 tests that accounted for 10.5% of the total tests.
The antigen tests are helping in detecting the presence of a specific viral antigen, which implies current viral infection. These tests are helping civic bodies to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2.
“As of Friday, we have increased our total testing capacity up to five thousand tests a day”, said TMC’s Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Malvi to Mumbai Mirror.
They also claimed that they were conducting more tests per day in comparison to other corporations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
India currently has 42,80,422 cases while 33,23,950 people have recovered. The death count increases to 72, 775 which keeps the active cases to 8,83,697 cases.
