The Mumbai Local train -considered as the lifeline of Mumbai were shut down during the lockdown and resumed two months back but only for essential service workers. So far only a limited number of suburban trains are servicing. Several employees have not been able to join office due to the halt in railways, this might be a good news for them as they would get a chance back to their office.
The state government has also allowed accredited journalists to travel using local trains with valid QR codes. However, no decision has been taken yet on allowing the general public to board local trains. Known as the lifeline of Mumbai, over 8.5 million passengers took the local train daily. The lockdown resulted in the shutting down of the local train network for the first time in 46 years.
More than 7.5 million commuters travel daily via Mumbai Local Trains and in current situation how safe would it be for the citizens to use railways?
