Since the start of the month, the stock of water in seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai has risen from 11% to 40%. This year on July 11, the combined stock of lake water saw an increase of nearly 5%, straight from 5.15 lakh million liters to 5.8 lakh million liters.

The total stock of water, 10 days ago was nearly 1.6 lakh million liters of about 14.5 lakh million liters. A 10% water cut for the city has been withdrawn by the BMC on June 27, but the people have been requested to use water adequately until the lakes reach an optimum level.

An official from the Municipal Corporation said “The lakes in the catchment areas need to reach over 14 lakh million liters by October for Mumbai to go without water cuts for the whole year.” He also said, “If the current wet spell continues, we expect the lakes to fill up soon,” quoted The Times Of India.
