In Mumbai, the fuel prices were at an all-time high on Saturday wherein the prices of petrol and diesel crossed Rs.108 and Rs.98. This is the third consecutive day since the fuel prices have been rising. Thane also looks at the rise in fuel prices as petrol is costing Rs.108.33 and diesel is priced at Rs.110.75, respectively.
The citizens have been continuously expressing their anger on the rise of fuel prices. They also have asked the government to look after this issue and take immediate steps in order to control the hike. Apart from the citizens, transporters have also stated that the government should consider including the fuel under Goods and Service Tax (GST) in order to stop the price rise.
Bal Malkit Singh, who is the chairman of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has said that, “Petro and diesel prices have touched record highs on Saturday. The government is totally callous to the plight of the common citizens and the road transport sector which is always at the receiving end even with small surge in prices. It has been experienced that the government, during election season, puts a freeze on any price hikes and it should redo that now when inflation is at an all-time high, squeezing the household budget and putting acute pressure on the economic viability of small operators. The government should seriously consider including the (fuel) products under GST.”
