One of the most important shrines for Hindus in India, Kamakhya Temple, reopened its doors to the public on October 12 after remaining shut during the pandemic.
The work on RIL’s ‘Diwali gift’ to the temple is currently underway in Mumbai by local artisans, according to TOI report.
According to unnamed sources quoted in the report, RIL Chairman is taking a special interest in the project. The gold leafing of the three bigger “Kalash” around the dome is currently underway. RIL’s jewellery arm has been given the task to carry complete the work, the report added.
The gold leafing work of the dome will soon be completed and the remaining work is expected to be completed in the next two weeks, it added.
A copper frame design has been prepared for the main structure and the gold leafing work on it is underway.
“The temple was reopened recently after many months because of the pandemic. Devotees will see something grand when they come here to offer their prayers. We expect a rise in the number of visitors because of the makeover,” Mohit Chandra Sarma, doloi (head) of the Kamakhaya Temple Trust Board told TOI.
The Kamrup Kamakhya temple is dedicated to “Maa Kamakhya Devi” and is situated in Assam’s capital Guwahati. It remained shut during the shutdown owing to Covid-19 pandemic.
Situated atop Nilachal Hills in the state, Kamakhya is one of the four Maha Shakti peeths in the country.
